Insomnia is a hyper-vigilant state of mind designed by the primitive brain as a stress response to protect us. In primal times when there were dangers in the form of bears, adverse weather conditions and other tribesman- our brains had a brilliant mechanism of keeping us awake even if we were exhausted! This meant we had the best chance of protecting ourselves and our families should something like a polar bear show up in the middle of the night.
In modern times we don’t have polar bears but we do have, jobs, relationships and life problems. Unfortunately our brains don’t know the difference between modern life and the jungle. In this state our mind and body respond with the same survival mechanisms in the form of stimulating stress hormones that keep us awake and complete hyper vigilance. Hypnotherapy can really help by working to move you away from the primitive part of your brain. Trance works to calm down that thinking mind, deeply relax you and bring the intellectual subconscious and conscious mind together in focus.
When we are in the intellectual part of our brain we are no longer operating from stress responses. This means we can switch the thinking mind off and allow the body to do what it already knows how to do… SLEEP.
